ADDICTION RECOVERY
“You’re not going in there just to get clean, you’re going in there to change your life.”
Many people experiencing homelessness suffer from drug or alcohol addiction. Further complicating those problems, many also deal with co-occurring mental health issues. In the absence of shelter, food, and the support of family or friends, these factors can easily create a cycle of poverty, addiction, and homelessness. LifeHouse’s Greater Love Works Addiction Center breaks this cycle by providing a residential recovery program to homeless who are ready to create sober and stable lives for themselves.
First Phase
The Greater Love Works Center’s year-long, abstinence-based, work-structured program empowers idividuals with no income or resources with the tools to overcome addiction and the support to establish productive and healthy lives. The Gospel centered treatment offered through LifeHouse’s multiple services is rare in the field of recovery and allows for immediate assessment and thoughtful resolution of clients’ medical, legal, vocational and educational needs, most or all of which have been affected profoundly by the cycles of poverty and addiction.
Next Phase
Individuals who have completed their six-month work experience partner with our Workforce Development team to reach individualized employment goals, some return to a previously-held position, while others may venture into new lines of work.
More Than a Job
The Workforce Development team supports the employment resiliency of job seekers, not just getting the next job: individuals in the program develop strengths and gain skills through an intensive orientation, including one-on-one coaching sessions, vocational and personal goal-setting, and strengths-based approaches to mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and self-compassion. Through active job search and community partnerships, participants gain employment in short and long-term positions and upon completion of the program, almost all graduates have stable employment and housing.
After Graduation
Alumni participation and the aftercare component of Greater Love Works Center help ensure long-term success of graduates. Regular activities engaging graduates and current participants serve as powerful, living reminders to individuals in the program that long-term recovery is real and attainable.
Qualifications for entry into the Greater Love Works Recovery Program: homeless, no source of income and a history of substance addiction.
